What would a Relief Road achieve?

Save Life and Limb
The route known as 'D2' was initially proposed during the construction of Sizewell B. An independent study commissioned by Suffolk County Council in 2014 predicted that the D2 would
  • prevent 138 potential road accident casualties, of which 17 would be fatal or serious
  • reduce traffic congestion on the A12 at Yoxford, and through Leiston and Saxmundham, cutting vehicle emissions, noise and pollution
  • cost £54 million (compared with Sizewell B's c.£18 billion).

Leiston's Legacy
The ‘boom and bust’ of each new power station has crippled Leiston’s economy over the years. It means that the town suffers from higher unemployment and deprivation than in the surrounding area.

While the construction of Sizewell C will bring a welcome boost to employment, it is not a long-term solution.

We believe that only a Relief Road to the A12 will bring diverse and sustainable economic activity and employment to the town.
